I replaced an ancient B&S on an ancient John Deere front tine rototiller with a Greyhound engine from Harbor Freight a year or two before they brought the Predator engines to the stores. No problems 6 or 7? years later, and it still starts fine.

It might be a little late to the party but an outfit called Performance 670 sells a flywheel adapter to attach a Kohler driveshaft to the predator engine. I just got one for a John Deere Ztrak engine swap, which had a blown up Kohler Command 20.
In my PowerTrac PT425 I have a 25hp Kohler command pro that has two pumps on the output shaft side and the drive pump on the shaft coming out of the fan side. I'd suggest to ease your pain, if you can't rebuild the current engine, put in a new exact same engine. It will save you headaches in the long run with adapters, mounts, etc. These engines are fairly popular and should do the job well. I have never done the conversion, hopefully someone can give you details of what's needed. I had planned on swapping the engine of a chipper shredder a few years back.
