Just bought a skid steer for clearing and land maintenance at the ranch. Have a long list of want and need attachments: For those that have cleared what worked better for clearing mesquite. The first pick is off a mesquite that has previously been sprayed. It was top-killed, but as you can see, it is resprouting, as it has already done at least once before. The second and third picks are just east of the corrals. Sendero herbicide is a viable alternative to mechanical removal. I wouldn't count on tordon killing anything other than seedling mesquite under ideal conditions when broadcast sprayed. They do make a tordon RTU that is pre-mixed to kill the stump after you cut it off. I promised to share the results of my land clearing project with you when I got finished with the project. The project was to grub and rake 34 acres of Mesquite and Russian Thistle. It took 28 days for me to complete the project, 13 days grubbing and 15 days raking.
I use my skid steer and root bucket shown in the picture. I can clear about an acre in 2 - 3 hours. Pulling the bushes out is almost fun, smoothing out all the ruts and stacking the pulled bushes is less fun. I have a skid steer mounted heavy duty shredder that will eat them up. Could I go through and do this now while they are dormant and then wait until the spring when they resprout from the roots and spray them then and get effective kill?
