A dozer would handle the 10 inch trees you're talking about, if it is just a handful, and if you're careful. But you still have to pile it all up and burn it, which is where the excavator or the track loader shine.

It sounds like you don't know a lot about equipment either. A loader can reach up higher than a dozer to provide much better leverage for pushing tree's over. You can also lift the tree's and/or stump easier. Comparing a wheel loader to a track loader is like comparing a 2 wheel drive pick up to a 4 wheel drive pick up. With that being said, I personally think a dozer with a 6 way blade would round out your equipment fleet better than a track loader. The track loader and excavator overlap in a lot of areas, whereas a 6 way dozer will greatly speed up shaping and finishing and is still plenty capable for light clearing. I use my dozer in the woods all the time .

Having a bucket, rake, and forks gives me quite a bit of versatility. When things get really soft or slippery, I'm sure the track loader would be a better option. A steel-encased-in-rubber type track would be better for slope work. After 7 derailments in the first 70 hours on a new machine with the ASV, I was always cautious if on a side slope. Now, dozer or track loader? A dozer is great for shifting bulk dirt over short distances, up to about 100 yards with a larger dozer where you can work in a slot. A track loader will not move dirt efficiently over anything like those sorts of distances, either pushing or carrying. I know a dozer with a tilt blade is the preferred option but to me a crawler loader, especially one with a four in one bucket is far more versatile and inevitably quicker. The only proviso is to build a level start, but once you are away you can, dig, pick up and dump dirt where it is needed, pull out stumps, push over and shift trees and back .
